East Africa Makes a Splash at ITB Berlin 2025 as a Unified Tourism Destination

The East African Community (EAC) is set to make its debut as a unified tourism destination at the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) Berlin 2025, the world’s leading travel trade fair.

Under the brand “Visit East Africa: Feel the Vibe,” the EAC will showcase the diverse attractions of its member states, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan. The bloc aims to attract international tourists and investors by highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and unique experiences.

A Unified Front for Tourism

The EAC’s participation at ITB Berlin signifies a significant step towards promoting the region as a single tourism destination. By showcasing the seamless travel possibilities across the region, the EAC hopes to attract visitors seeking diverse experiences, from wildlife safaris and mountain climbing to cultural immersion and beach holidays.

Key Attractions and Opportunities

The East African region offers a plethora of attractions, including:

  • Iconic Wildlife: The region is home to some of the world’s most iconic wildlife, including the Big Five.

  • Majestic Mountains: Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, and the Virunga Mountains are popular destinations for adventure seekers.

A Brighter Future for East African Tourism

The EAC’s participation at ITB Berlin is expected to boost the region’s tourism industry, which has been recovering strongly from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The bloc aims to attract over 11 million international tourist arrivals by the end of 2027.

The European Union, through the LIFTED project, is supporting the EAC’s efforts to promote regional tourism. The project aims to leverage integration frameworks for trade in services and civil society engagement in the East African Community.

By showcasing the beauty and vibrancy of East Africa, the EAC hopes to inspire travelers to explore the region and experience its unique culture, wildlife, and landscapes.
